Cedar Stars Academy striker Paul Nittoli won Week 2 Player of the Week for scoring two second half headers that rallied his side to a 2-2 draw with NY Pancyprian Freedoms on Saturday.

“Wow, thank you. I'm very overwhelmed that I got the award,” Nittoli said.

He later added: “I know Pancyprians is a hard team and I always give all I got, I’m happy that I scored two goals.”

The Freedoms downed CSA by two goals in the first half through Luis Esteves and Daniel Bedoya before Nittoli’s headers. The 32-year-old netted both of his headers from Samuel Gehman’s crosses.

Although his team came back from a two-goal deficit, Nittoli wasn’t content with the draw.

“I was not satisfied about the tie,” he said. “I always go for a win but our team never gave up and pushed until the last minute.”

Cedar Stars’ previous game was a 3-3 draw with champions NY Greek Americans. Nittoli noted that the team improved after the first two outings of the season.

“I'm seeing that our team is progressing and I'm happy about that,” the former Brooklyn Italians player said. “It's a long season so I'm looking forward to growing with the team.”

Nittoli also scored the Stars’ opener in their 3-3 draw with NY Greeks in Week 1. He leads the CSL in scoring with three goals alongside James Whyte (NY Shamrock SC) and Jason Lampkin (NY Athletic Club).
