Zum Schneider F.C. 03 was founded 15 years ago. Well it only took Colombian native Wilfrido Junior Guerra four months in the U.S. and with the team to become the first player to win CSL Player of the Week in the history of the club.
Guerra won the accolade after netting a brace versus Central Park Rangers Whites in a 2-2 draw on Nov. 18th.
“Happy and grateful to God for the achievement obtained,” Guerra said in an interview in Spanish.
“It is a joy to be part of the history of Zum Schneider, every time I enter the field I try to do things in the best way I can to get new opportunities.”
ZSFC entered the game just two points above the dropzone in sixth place hence needed all three points to keep themselves far from the relegation zone.
Guerra was keen to put up a stellar performance to help his side win the game.
“I was willing to do everything I can to get the result we wanted, we knew it wouldn’t be easy because our opponents are also meritable. But in the end we achieved a result that was not what we wanted but valuable.”
The 23-year-old put ZSFC up 1-0 in the 20th minute before tying the game 2-2 in the 75th minute with a free-kick from 20-yards out.
Guerra is the club’s leading scorer of the season thus far, tallying three goals.
The South American is the first player to be selected as Player of the Week while playing for a team that is currently in the lower half of the table since Central Park Rangers midfielder James Greco won the award in the 10th round last season.
Guerra’s next game with Zum is against second placed Cedar Stars Academy on Dec. 9th away from at Ramapo College Athletic Center in New Jersey.
