NY Pancyprian Freedoms striker Shavon John-Brown won Round 11 Player of the Week after tallying five assists—the most he ever had in a game—and scoring a brace versus Doxa SC in an 8-2 victory on Sunday night at St. John’s University Belson Stadium.
“I’m happy,” John-Brown said after finding out he earned the accolade this week, “but just want to thank my teammates, coaching staff, family [who came to the game to support him], fans and most importantly the man above for pushing me each game.”
He previously stated: “I feel good about it [the five assists], it just shows that my teammates trust me and we are on the same page.”
It’s the Grenada international’s second time collecting the award as he was selected in the eighth round for registering two goals and an assist in NYPF’s notable 4-3 win over powerclub Cedar Stars Academy.
The Freedoms’ eight-goal showdown was the most goals a team scored in the league since Sept. 20th, 2015 when they themselves ran nine goals past United F.C. John-Brown had a hand in seven of the eight goals on Sunday night.
It started in the eighth minute when the youngster brought Andreas Iosifidis’ pass down then paced down the right wing past a Doxa defender to the box before caressing a shot under the opposing keeper’s dive.
Two minutes later, John-Brown galloped down the right flank again but guided Adam Himeno to goal this time with a neat cross.

Later in the 16th minute, the striker assisted Himeno’s second goal with another cross.
John-Brown recorded another assist in the 76thminute, squaring the ball to Andreas Chronis in the box for a sweet finish.
The former Alderson Broaddus player netted his second goal 10 minutes from time, firing Himeno’s pass to the lower left corner of the net from the box.
He wasn’t done yet. John-Brown sent Jonathan Borrajo on goal in the 88th minute with an intelligent through ball.
When asked what was behind his out of the norm performance, the 23-year-old said: “I think I just came out to play tonight and like I said my teammates and I were all on the same page, the ball movement, the weight of each pass, everything was just going the way we all wanted it to.”
John-Brown is the Freedoms’ top scorer of the season thus far, scoring eight goals in as many matches and the team's second top assistman with seven goal-passes. The forward’s contribution helped the club finish the first half of the season in first place with a 9W-1T-0L record.
Next time the Cypriot club will be in action in the CSL will be in March in the second half of the season.
