Central Park Rangers Whites midfielder James Greco was selected Player of the Week for the tenth round of the CSL’s top division.
Greco netted his first brace in the CSL against Doxa SC in a 3-2 win on Sunday.
“I wouldn’t say it’s my best performance [in the CSL] but it was a good performance,” the midfielder said, “especially we needed the win. We won, we got the three points.”
Greco’s first goal was a 62nd-minute penalty kick that levelled the scoring 1-1. And for his second goal, the 23-year-old hit a voluptuous left footed free kick up and over the wall and to the top left corner of the net from about 20 yards out.
Stephanos Hondrakis scored the winner for CPR in the 89th minute after Greco’s double guided the promoted club to a 2-2 scoreline.
This win pushed the Rangers four points above the relegation zone and two spots up in seventh place.
Greco noted that Central Park’s victory over Doxa can change the team’s mentality for the remainder of the season.
“It gives us a lot of confidence going forward that we can win games,” he said.
The former Quinnipiac University player leads CPR in scoring with three goals. Hondrakis expressed how valuable Greco has been to the team.
“He’s an excellent addition to the team,” the striker said. “He scored, I think, three goals so far. He’s obviously very talented so hopefully he’ll be doing more and we expect more from him ‘cause clearly he has a gift and the talent for it.”
